Our
ultimate goal is to rehabilitate cocker spaniels and find
them a loving home. In order to achieve our
goal, we ask many questions to make sure the dog and the adopter
are the best match. Please understand that when you fill out
our adoption application questionnaire. We require a home
visit, a vet reference and an adoption fee. The fee is used
to help pay the vet bills we incur when getting our cockers
up-to-date on shots, heartworm tested, teeth cleaned, neutered/spayed,
and any other surgeries required.
Many of the cockers
in our rescue come from homes that were not prepared to own
a dog. Because the dogs are not properly socialized and trained,
they end up in shelters where they will be put down if rescues
dont take them in.
We use crate
training and positive reinforcement. It takes time but the
rewards are unbelievable once a dog is taught what is expected
of them. Patience and a regular schedule are two very important
parts of training. We encourage all of our new moms and dads
to continue with the same type of training we use.
We also believe
in a good diet. This means no grocery store food, and preferably
a food that doesnt contain wheat, corn, yeast, soy, BHA, BHT,
and chemical preservatives. Our foster dogs are fed Nutro
Natural unless they have special needs.
Adoption
Process.
Potential adopters
fill out an application and return it via email to
The information is reviewed and vet references are checked.
After a phone interview(s), an appointment will be made to
visit the dog. Potential adopters must be willing to drive
to where the dog is being fostered. We require all members
of the household to be present including adults, children
and other dogs. Our goal is to make sure that everyone is
a good match for the dog.
